Supporting a wide age range…

Drama was a completely new subject for King’s Rochester and OpusSystem became a key element of the school’s investment in a new state-of-the-art drama studio.

In June 2015 King’s Rochester celebrated the studio’s opening by staging the existentialist French play, Huis Clos (No Exit). Performed by Lower Sixth AS students, the OpusSystem sound and lighting were significant features of the ambitious production and helped to create the tense atmosphere required. At the time, the school wrote: “The new system will greatly enhance the teaching of drama at all levels at King’s. Pupils from a very young age will have access to this high tech equipment which provides a wonderful opportunity to get involved in the technical production side of theatre and drama.”

OpusSystem is a complete drama studio solution; it’s highly flexible, equipped with the latest low energy technology and capable of transforming any space into a modern Performing Arts Studio.

Steve Mount, Head of Drama & Theatre Studies at King’s Rochester was impressed: “Opus was the perfect solution to meet our needs – for the space we had available and for the wide age range of the children we’re teaching, from eight to eighteen years. It appealed to me that even the younger children would be able to engage with the system.”

OpusSystem has been designed in consultation with drama teachers to meet the curriculum requirements for drama and performing arts at Key Stages 3, 4 and 5. Steve Mount comments that: “We use the lighting and sound features most regularly, and the easy wireless connection for smartphone compatibility gives us instant sound. The bluetooth functionality is a real time saver. It means when I’m teaching the younger children, I don’t need to worry about leaving the classroom to find a sound effect or music. I can source it instantly on my device and don’t need to leave the students alone. And it’s so easy to use that there’s always plenty of opportunity for them to get hands-on and operate the system themselves.”
